E-mail versus Snail Mail: “Which is better for you?”

snail_mail.jpgemail_only.jpg

Versus

Nowadays, we find ourselves able to communicate with anyone anywhere in the world with the help of telephones, fax machines, and the Internet. So, a lot of people ask, which is better to communicate with our love ones, friends and colleagues, e-mail or snail mail? The internet has given birth to electronic mail, more popularly known as e-mail. With a lot of people having computers and internet access at home and at office, e-mail has become one of the commonly used methods of communication. Now, people of every age group have an e-mail address. Using e-mail is like sending a letter to someone. We check our mailbox, open the mail, read the note or information and make the choice whether to respond or disregard it. However, your electronic letter will be created and sent by the computer. You will be sending a file rather than a piece of paper. The file or message you send will go to the electronic mailbox of the person you address. You will also have your own electronic mailbox to receive any mail that comes into your Internet account.

But, what advantages can electronic mail or e-mail bring? One of the advantages is speed. E-mail let you communicate instantaneously with anyone on Earth that has access to the internet. All this happens within seconds, no matter where you send it.

Another advantage of e-mail is the cheapest method of communicating as of now. It is less expensive. You can send e-mail to many people scattered all over the Earth at the same time without spending enough money and/or time, with the click of a mouse. You can also check or log in to your e-mail anywhere you are allowed. Even with our technological advances, it is very common to send personal letters using snail mail to our friends and love ones. People write letters to keep in touch with family and friends.

snailmail.jpg “Snail mail” is a term used to refer to mail that is sent in traditional way through the postal. It is called snail mail because it can be very slow as a snail. Snail mail generally takes 1 to 2 weeks to arrive in your mailbox after it is sent. This delay of receiving letters can be useful if you have a busy lifestyle because it gives you some free time. This means that you not only have to write so often, but also have more time to gather your thoughts and come up with the topics to write about in your next letter. This would usually make for more interesting correspondence because you are writing the best things that happened in the last week rather than 1 day.

Snail mail is also a term used to pen palling. Snail mail pen pals are those pen pals that communicate with one another through the postal system, rather than on the internet which is becoming the standard form of communication for pen pals. A snail letter is written on paper, with different ink and style of wring. The Envelop will have a stamp available only in the country it was sent from you.

Snail mail guaranteed a longer friendship by writing by post. Postal pen palling generally takes more effort than emailing, so it would make sense that the friendship would last longer…

To the people who ask which is better for communication, e-mail or snail mail? Our answer to that question is, “It depends!” Both e-mail and snail mails are important way in communication. It depends on you on what will you going to use. And how will you going to use them.

Embracing Internet for an Efficient and Effective Interactivity

In these days and age, information and communication technology has almost entirely encompassed the way we do things. From education, religion, entertainment, sports and business aspects, its utilization and effect is undeniably prevalent.

Internet, as it is widely known, by the help of the advanced technology has now emerged and variously characterized as an “efficient” means of communication. Traditional ways of sending mails or any other forms of important documents in the local area or even across the country are gradually being discarded. People are ready to face the trend and leave the tedious, money and time-consuming flow of Snail procedure and instead adopt the so-called Electronic-mail, the most-used feature of the Internet. Electronic-mail provides fast and reliable means in the exchange of information between two or more contracting parties. They do no longer need to meet each other in person considering the distance and gap in carrying-out of whatever errands they may have. Transactions are done without much effort.

In the field of education, learners mostly cling to surfing the Net for obtaining a wide range of information on any areas of study. Simply because they got the most of what they need from the particular or in general sorts of information and giving the updates as well. The same thing is offered in the aspects of religion, entertainment, sports and business etc. And since the world of business connotes a very broad scope, this is just to enumerate some of the multiple services of the Internet such as in marketing, sales, customer care, crisis management and other key business applications. It has been the electronic marketplace where one can do business exclusively online. Also, those businesses over the Internet find it faster and cheaper to deal with their suppliers and valued customers.

Indeed, with the advent of information and communication technology, man has conquered time, space, distance and the used to be impossible in creating, transmitting information. This definitely won’t be the end in mankind’s system, but just the beginning of more sophisticated and one touch access to every man’s endeavor.

Region 1 School Heads Start with DepED eXCELS Course

depEd Excel 1

In preparation for taking the course on Instructional and Curricular Excellence in School Leadership and Management, a DepED eXCELS Learners’ Orientation was conducted at the Pangasinan State University (PSU) in 7 November 2007. region 1 teachers

The participants were composed of school heads from some areas in the Region I, namely La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte. The workshop is a result of the tripartite agreement between SEAMEO INNOTECH, the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd), and the PSU. Participants of the course were among the scholars of the DepEd, which would total to 100 school heads across the country. PSU is one of the partner institutions together with a number of public and private universities that would grant advanced academic education credits to those who complete the course. Leading the program was Mr. Pierangelo Alejo, head of SEAMEO INNOTECH’s Flexible Learning Solutions Unit. Guests included Regional Director , DepEd Region I Dr. Ligaya Soledad T. Miguel, PSU President Dr. Vistoriano C. Estira, PSU VP for Administration Dr. Lydia C. Buduhan , and PSU Executive Director  Priscilla Luna Jimenez. eXCELS stands for Excellence in School Leadership for Southeast Asian School Heads. It is a flexible learning course specifically designed for school principals using learning modules developed under the Competency Framework for Southeast Asian School Heads. The program is a blend of e-learning and distance education through self-instructional modules (in print and CD forms). Within  a one-month period, course participants can work on the modules anytime and anywhere, thus affording them a higher  degree of flexibility. As a special course, DepED excels combines the module Affirm the Instructional Leadership Roles and Functions of a School head and Lead Curriculum on Excellence in Implementation and Enrichment. An overarching theme in these modules, appropriate for the participating principals, is learning leadership.

pb080010.JPG       The concept is “an all-embracing synthesis of what learning leaders do and who they really are”, as Mr. Alejo stressed to the participants during the orientation. The DepEd eXCELS Program would be implemented in five batches. The first batch would be comprised of learners from the National Capital Region and Regions 8 and 10. Supporting the learners of DepED eXCELS are flexible learning tutors who would facilitate online discussions using the customized features of  iFLEX. This gives way to collaborative learning among the other learners at the comfort of their offices or homes. iFLEX is a learning management system (LMS) wherein learners and tutors exchange feedbacks about certain sections of the modules through the use of asynchronous and synchronous discussion boards. Participants can also submit their assignments, reflection papers, and action plans through iFLEX. Suggested readings and video tips are likewise available in iFLEX. Accessible via iFLEX are resources of the Harvard Education Review and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Access to these materials is valid for the duration of the program and fourteen days thereafter.  pb080011.JPG pb080013.JPG                 Mr. Alejo recalled that one of the major obstacles in using eXCELS was the apprehension of some learners on using the computer although the course only needs basic computer proficiency. Some graduates of eXCELS have in fact developed their computer skills because of the course. The pool of Flexible Learning Tutors was also introduced during the orientation. The members were composed of INNOTECH Center Staffs Ms Joan Atienza, Mr. Jessie Yamson, and Mr. Ben Taylor, and the experts from the PSU—Dr. Gloria F. doantay, Mrs. Cheryl t. Vila engr. Russel Dela Cruz, Mr Baden Darwin Carranza, Mr Virgilio A. Aquino, Mr Antonio F. De Guzman, Mr Julio M. Cervantes, Ms. Rowena Bardiaga and Julius Cesar O. Mamaril.  Meanwhile, PSU President Dr. Victoriano C. Estira stressed to the participants that excellence in school leadership should not be only about intellectual leadership but should also be combined with moral leadership and change leadership. Dr. Namoro, a former eXCELS leaner, expressed that eXCELS opened her eyes to the enormous responsibility of a school head. She also widened her knowledge about learning leadership by communicating with her co-learners. The rest of 2007 would be devoted to the implementation of the DepEd eXCELS Program. This would be followed by the TEACHeXCELS, SUPEReXCELS (with modules on supervision), TECHeXCELS (with modules on technology use in education), and PEACEeXCELS (with modules on peace education and respect for multicultural diversity. Soon, ICeXCELS would be launched internationally with the holding of a six-module course for learners in Malaysia and Thailand.

RSS & Atom Tips

How to explain RSS the Oprah way

OK, this is both interesting and disturbing – RSS, the Oprah way…. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you)

Today, I’m going to explain how RSS can help you live your best life online.
We all have busy lives with very little time. Web surfing is fun but can take hours going to visit every single website and blog you enjoy. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if you could just get all the headlines of the most current stories from all your favorite websites and blogs in one place?
Well now you can, and it is called RSS feed.
The Oprah definition
The technical acronym for RSS is “Really Simple Syndication”, an XML format that was created to syndicate news, and be a means to share content on the web. Now, to geeks and techies that means something special, but to everyday folks like you and me, what comes to mind is, “Uh, I don’t get it?”
So, to make RSS much easier to understand, in Oprah speak, RSS stands for: I’m “Ready for Some Stories”. It is a way online for you to get a quick list of the latest story headlines from all your favorite websites and blogs all in one place. How cool is that…. Source: cravingideas.blogs.com
