How to reset a forgotten windows administrative password
Step 1
Take a Windows bootable CD and insert it into your CD-ROM. Boot your computer with the Windows CD as if you were doing the Windows installation. When the CD starts working, you will be prompted to “Press any key to boot from CD”.
Step 2
Go through the steps until you will see a setup screen where it requires you to choose from one of two options: Install Windows or Repair Windows
Step 3
Press “R” to start repair of the windows. The Setup will start copying the files from CD to your PC hard drive. Wait for few minutes; the computer will then reboot itself automatically.
Step 4
The GUI (Graphical User Interface) screen of Windows Setup will be shown on the screen. You will need to go to the command prompt.
If you are using Windows 2000, wait until the setup comes to the place where it says, “Registering Components.” There you are going to pres the “Shift+ F10” key.
If you are using Windows XP, wait until you see a progress bar in the left where it says, “Installing devices.” There you are going to press the “Shift + F10” key.
Step 5
Now that you have opened the command prompt, you will need to get access to the control panel. Here is how:
If using Windows 2000, type “control.exe” in command prompt without quotes. If using Windows XP, type “nusrmgr.cpl” in command prompt without quotes.
Step 6
Now that you have access to the control panel, you can reset or set a new password using the control panel administration/password utilities. When you are complete, close the command prompt and wait until the repair is completed. Restart your computer and login with your new password.

Step 1
Insert your Windows XP CD, and restart your computer. Watch the screen for the prompt “Press any key to boot from CD,” and hit a key when it appears.
Step 2
Proceed as if this were a normal “repair” installation of Windows. Allow the CD to start drivers, press “F8″ to agree to the license agreement, and select your installation of Windows XP for Repair by hitting the “R” key when prompted.
Step 3
Allow the repair process to continue until it reboots your computer. Do not be fooled by the “Press any key to boot from CD” prompt; just leave the computer alone to continue the repair process.
Step 4
Watch the bottom left hand corner of the screen. When you see the “Installing Devices” progress bar, hit “Shift+F10,” and a command prompt window will appear.
Step 5
Type “NUSRMGR.CPL” at the prompt, and hit “Enter.” You now have graphical access to the Users control panel! Change or remove passwords as you require.
Step 6
Allow the repair installation to complete, and you will be able to log in with your new password.
How to remove an administrative password in window xp
Step 1
Insert your Windows XP CD into your CD drive and boot your computer. If you receive the message “press any key to boot from CD,” press any key.
Step 2
Press Enter to setup Windows. After accepting the license agreement, you wil be asked if you want start a Repair process.

Press R to begin the Repair process. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files, which can take several minutes. After this, reboot. Let the computer boot normally (do not press a key to boot from CD).

Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen. When you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This will open a command line console.
Step 5
Type NUSRMGR.CPL at the prompt and press Enter. This will give you access to User Accounts. Remove or change your password. Write it down! After the repair is finished, you will be able to log on with your new password.
